Party Shoes for the Great Outdoors

‘Tis the season for outdoor parties, which invariably provokes harrowing shoe angst in me. I love the great outdoors. Really I do. They’re a lovely place to sprawl out with a good book and a Nalgene bottle full of mint juleps. But Mother Nature has a long-burning vendetta against me. Try as I may to be prepared for whatever gravel pits, mudslides, and rivers of lava she may throw in my path, I never seem to be wearing the right shoes.

This became painfully clear at a splendiferous wedding that I attended in the Hungarian countryside last month. Guests were treated to abundant wine, whole roast mammals, flitting cherubs, and gamboling fawns. The bride, ever attentive to her friends’ collective fabulosity, even had wooden walkways lain in the fields so people could walk comfortably from place to place. This worked marvelously until the walkways got wet and turned into a network of Slip n’ Slides.

By now I think you can see where this is going. . . two broken sandals and a solicitous Hungarian peasant boy later, I sorely lamented my choice of footwear.

The difficulty with picking shoes for outdoor events is that your footwear must be practical and adaptable to all sorts of terrain. That means no heels unless you’re out to aerate someone’s lawn. Bigger trouble still is that your footwear often winds up looking eminently functional. So here are a few shoe selections that are practical, adaptable and elegant. . . and even a couple with a little altitude built in.
Swoosie, by Kate Spade, will keep your feet firmly planted on terra firma with arch support often lacking in strappy little sandals. Plus, they’re adorned with little golden grape clusters.
And Oona, by Loeffler Randall, would be perfect with those white wide-legged trousers you have. You know, the ones that make your legs look a mile long. Those trousers.
Finally, Jean, by Stuart Weitzman, is the perfect combination of polished and relaxed elements. I usually get a little queasy at the sight of cork heels. But these are so pitch perfect that you don’t have to worry about looking like the sort of leather-textured woman who molests cabana boys with coconut oil.

Now go outside and play!

Top 10 Shoe Trends Fall-Winter 2011-2012

Despite the fact it is high summer now all fashionistas already plan their wardrobes for the next season. Being aware of this, designers have created and launched their Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections as part of Fashion Weeks in four world fashion capitals or showcased their ranges in private showrooms. Having analyzed dozens of such collections we can now present the TOP 10 SHOE TRENDS FOR FALL/ WINTER 2011/ 2012. We have started from shoes because it is shoes that women think first about while picturing their future looks. (You can also read about COLOR TRENDS FOR FALL/ WINTER 2011/ 2012!)

Shoe trends for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 are as diverse as ever so that every woman could find something for herself. If we speak about the color scheme, then the trendiest tones for the upcoming fashion season are: black, white, stone, metallic, beige, burgundy, dark blue, chocolate, deep violet, khaki and red. Bright hues are scarce, which is normal as we prefer wearing darker colors during autumn and winter.

Materials that prevail in Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 shoe collections include: ordinary leather, patent and reptile skins, suede and satin. There is also a lot lace and occasional fur this season.

One more thing is worth mentioning before we start enumerating shoe trends for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 – this fashion season both pike and round toes are popular. This means you can stick to your favorite shape of shoe and still be very fashionable.

Now let’s start:

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #1: Reptile skins. Reptile leather is going to be very trendy during Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012. Dozens designers opted for snake skin to create their shoes from. Crocodile leather isn’t as popular but it is still widely found in Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 footwear ranges. For reptile skins see Balenciaga, Giorgio Armani, Chloe, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and other collections.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #2: Patent leather. This type of leather maybe a bit unpractical to wear and less versatile than ordinary leather, but no one will ever argue on the fact patent leather looks gorgeous. For Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 you can go for super bold color combinations like red and black, black and white, blue and burgundy. See how Mark Jacobs, and Viktor & Rolf use color blocking in their Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 shoe collections.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #3: Suede. Good suede looks luxurious and designers know that better than others because almost every fashion season we see thousands of different shoe designs made of this material. During Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 suede is very trendy and it comes in a variety of shades. Diane von Furstenberg offers a lot of styles to choose from.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #4: Satin. Satin shoes can hardly be worn daily but for special occasion they are the best. Looking totally chic satin shoes come as a very beautiful shoe trend of Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #5: Platforms and wedges. Wedge trend has transferred to Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 from the previous season. But if in Spring/ Summer 2011 we have seen colorful and unusual platforms for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 designs are more modest and elegant.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #6: Lacing. As well as the wedge trend, lacing has been brought by designers from Spring/ Summer 2011 fashion season. And we also see the transformation of the style. Lacing, which used to be rather delicate and feminine in Spring, has become sexier and more aggressive in Fall and Winter. See Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone for lacing.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #7: Plenty of buckles. Fashion repeats itself. A couple of seasons ago we already spoke about buckles but then they nearly all disappeared just to return now in a larger diversity.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #8: Chunky heel. It is quite reasonable that chunky heels appear during colder seasons as they provide comfort and confidence we all need at this time. In Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections there are plenty of shoes with chunky heels. Styles of these shoes are very different, from classy pumps to rocker boots.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #9: Spike heels. Chunky heels are comfy but they will never be as stylish and sexy as spike heels, that’s why designers always create loads of shoes with stilettos. Women love them because they love looking sexy.

Shoe Trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 #10: Socks in shoes. Few women really like wearing socks in their shoes but after Rihanna appeared in public sporting pumps with a pair of socks millions of her fans started copying her. If socks in shoes seem too much for you try warm tights instead. At least you will look more elegant.

Shoe Trends Fall-Winter 2011-2012

To always stay in a rushing stream of fashion one needs to know the trends. Taking into account the fact shoes are no less important than garments it is esential to know the shoe trends for the upcoming season – Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011.

Fur boots. Winter is cold in majority of countries around the globe, so fur boots will certainly become a hit. No girl will ever refuse to wear stylish boots like Chanel or Lanvin’s.

Laced-up boots. Laces are getting very popular. So, laced-up boots trend comes as no surprise to us in Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011. Such footwear is very comfy and looks great, but taking it off can be a problem.

Shoes with buckles. ‘The more buckles the better’ sounds the slogan for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 season. Buckles look interesting and provide great support and fixation for the foot. However, they bring the same problem as laces – it takes time to pull them off.

Stiletto shoes. Stilettos aren’t always easy to sport but the fact they look gorgeous is undeniable. That is why if you feel you can walk on super tiny heels this shoe trend is everything you might want.

Both shoes and boots can come with spike heels. They look feminine and totally stylish.

Chunky heels. Although stilettos look glamorous chunky heels are much more comfortable. And plenty of women prefer being safe and comfy rather than sexy and scared of falling down. So, chunky heel is one more shoe trend for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 season.
Wedges. The popularity of wedges has already faded but their practicality still makes designers pay attention to such kind of shoes. If you are a fan of this shoe trend, go ahead and purchase one more pair of pretty wedges.

Thigh-high boots. Thigh-high boots were a hugefootwear trend last season. We have seen celebrities and ordinary girls wearing these everywhere. And luckily such boots are going to be still hot for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011, too.
High heel + High platform. This shoe trend isn’t for girls who love looking womanly. But it does look chic and intriguing.

Combination of colors. To brighten up our footwear designers have chosen the technique of combining colors. Yellow goes together with brown, red is mixed with pink. More variables are possible. Just look at Balenciaga shoes!
